When my family and I made the decision to move from the big smoke of Melbourne to the coastal town of Nelson Bay, I’ll admit I was a little nervous and really didn’t know what to expect.
Since the move I have had the pleasure of exploring this beautiful part of Australia and have been pleasantly surprised by the creative talent that exists in Newcastle, Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley Regions.
Because I love supporting local business and artists, I thought I would share my top 5 favourites home interior, fashion and beauty businesses (and don’t worry thanks to the digital age & Australia wide postage you don’t have to be a local to experience what they have to offer.)
Boho Luxe Trader
For anyone who loves stylish bohemian homewares and beautiful fashion pieces, a trip to Boho Luxe Trader is a must.
The lovely ladies that run the store are so helpful and friendly, one visit will make you feel like you’ve known them for years!
Whether it’s a jewellery gift for a friend, a new outfit for yourself or if you’re like me and all about the homewares, you’ll find there’s something for everyone.

Bay Living and Garden
If you’re a fan of all things rattan, home decor and indoor/ outdoor plants you won’t want to miss this Nelson Bay local.
Filled with all types of greenery, pots, planters, homewares and coastal inspired furniture this store has it all.
The team are super knowledgeable about all things plants with horticulture being their passion and speciality and are always more than happy to answer a question or two on plant care, the ideal shop for all those plant killers out there! 😆

May Clay
I am obsessed with ceramics! I love the earthy material, its imperfections, the colours and textures and one of the local artists I absolutely adore the work of is May Clay.
Her style is simple and refined, yet beautifully made and I love the soft colour palette she uses in her designs.
I am the lucky owner of one of her planter pots, but the talent of this Dudley local knows no bounds with her bowls, cups, planters, vases and candles (to name a few) being stocked in some of Newcastles top homeware stores and cafes.
Willows Home Traders
For the lover of all things interior, a visit to this beautiful store on Darby Street or an online stalk is mandatory!
If you’re looking for unique and quality lifestyle pieces such as homewares, bedding, artwork, lighting or some amazing plants by the talented Plant Life Newcastle this place is your one stop shop.
And once you’re done shopping take yourself along the street to enjoy the amazing array of cafes, bars, restaurants, eclectic clothing shops and more!

Slow Skin Co
If you happen to be visiting Newcastle or you’ve been looking for the perfect natural skin product to purchase online, do yourself a favour and check out Slow Skin Co.
The studio’s focus is on low-tox living so it goes with out saying that all their products are made from 100% natural ingredients that are absolutely amazing for your skin.
I have had the pleasure of enjoying a facial with some of their gorgeous Australian made products and I’m telling you it was heaven and my skin has never looked so good!
Whilst the businesses and areas mentioned are just a small taste of what Newcastle and the surrounds has to offer, there are so many more beautiful places that make this part of the world a must see destination.
If you’re looking for a region that has an abundance of natural beauty, wineries, stunning coastline and a city brimming with creativity, then you won’t be disappointed.
Have enjoyed this post or found it useful? If so, I’d love for you to share it with others who you think would benefit from it. I’m all about sharing the love, discovering what’s in my own backyard and supporting local business.
