ABOUT ME

Hi there,
I’m your design-and-decor-loving specialist—with a passion for creating spaces that feel as good as they look.
I help guide you through your home decorating and design decisions so you feel confident, supported, and connected to every choice. The result? A home that’s warm, relaxed, inviting and uniquely you.
My love for interiors led me to study at the International School of Colour and Design, which naturally evolved into launching Michelle Canny Interiors. Over the past 10+ years, I’ve had the privilege of designing and styling homes that reflect not only my clients’ personal tastes, but also how they want to feel in their space.
Through my work, I’ve become especially passionate about sensory design, an approach that considers how elements like light, texture, sound, and flow can support your mood, wellbeing and your everyday life. It’s about creating homes that feel calm, functional, and emotionally grounding.
Yes, you could say I’m obsessed with all things interiors, but more than that; I’m fascinated by how design influences our lives and how intentional spaces can bring ease, clarity, and comfort into our world.
My name is Michelle Canny—but please, call me Canny.
Fun fact: in high school there were so many Michelles that I quickly became known by my surname. Somewhere along the way, my classmates decided I was like Madonna—just one name needed.
While I absolutely adore designing spaces and styling interiors, nothing fills my heart more than spending time outdoors with my two sons, Gus and Luca. We’re often by the water—paddleboarding, exploring the beach, or surfing. I’m a beach girl at heart, and we call the beautiful coastal town of Nelson Bay home.
My journey into sensory design began on a much more personal note. When my son eldest was diagnosed with autism, I began to see our home through a completely different lens. I noticed how things like lighting, layout, texture, and sound affected his comfort, focus, and sense of safety. That experience reshaped the way I approach interiors—not just for my family, but for every client I work with.
Now, sensory design is at the heart of everything I do. It’s about creating spaces that are not only beautiful, but that also feel right—spaces that support wellbeing, regulate the nervous system, and offer a sense of calm and connection.
Because when it comes to design, there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all. My approach is all about understanding you—your lifestyle, your needs, and what makes you feel at home—so we can create a space that’s both cohesive and deeply personal.
