FAQ

Are you an Interior Designer or Decorator – what is the difference?

I am an interior decorator and stylist. I specialise in decorating existing interior spaces or creating new ones based on your style.

I help with the sourcing of furniture, soft furnishings, décor choices,  floor plan layouts, colour schemes and fabrics and can also style a space. I can’t help with structural changes to a space but can advise on fittings, fixtures, tiles, flooring and paint colour options.

Can you work with existing furniture?

Yes, I often work with clients that want to keep some of their existing furniture or pieces that are sentimental. Dependant on the look and feel you want for the space, I may recommend some changes but I always leave the final decision up to you.

I don’t live in the same state as you, can we still work together?

Absolutely, I work with clients all over Australia. I offer an e-decorating service which is designed specifically for this reason. However if you would like to meet in person, I am also available to travel for an additional fee, just send me an email and we can discuss your needs.

I don’t have a big budget, can I still work with you?

Yes,  I work with clients of all budgets and offer different packages and payment plans to suit. There is no right or wrong when it comes to budgets, the only thing I ask is that your expectations are realistic. I am a Decorator and Stylist after all, not a magician! 😉

How long does a decorating project normally take?

Decorating isn’t a quick process and timing can vary depending on a few factors. If you’re looking to decorate just one room, the project can take as little as 3 weeks to a month, however if you’re looking to decorate a few rooms or an entire home allow for the process to take a few months or longer.

The turn-around time for the initial mood board concept is 2 weeks. Once final approval has been given by the client, the final mood boards can be prepared with in a week.

Potential elements that can slow a project down is product availability (allow 6-8 weeks minimum lead time for furniture that is not in stock or needs to be custom made), external factors such as trades and budget constraints can also impact the timing of a project.

What does a consultation involve?

No matter whether it’s the premium service or e-decorating, I take the time to either meet with you in person or via a video call/email to determine your needs and wants for the space, your vision, budget, timing and any other important aspects of the project.

I have an interior style questionnaire that I send through to you prior to our meeting that helps me better understand your style and am always open to seeing Pinterest boards as a reference.

If the service is in person I will take measurements at the initial consultation or if it’s e-decorating I ask that you provide measurements or a floor plan if you have one available.

Is it possible to decorate one room at a time?

Of course. I understand that decorating can be an expensive and time consuming process and dependent on your needs and lifestyle it may not be possible to do it all at once.

Splitting a project into different stages is completely fine and a specific project plan can be put into place so you know what is happening and when.

I have never worked with an Interior Decorator before, what if I don’t like what you design?

I understand that the thought of working with an Interior Decorator can be daunting but it doesn’t need to be. I am here to make the process as stress free and easy as possible.

Communication is key in any working relationship, and because of this I keep you informed on progress throughout the entire project no matter how big or small.

One round of changes is included with any mood board design so if there is something on there that you’re not so keen on, just let me know and it can be changed.

Can you purchase furniture and decorative items for me?

Yes, I have access to a range of furniture and decor wholesalers that don’t sell direct to the public that I can order from on your behalf.

When I do this, I take care of the ordering and delivery process, keeping you informed every step of the way.

What’s the difference between the Interior Decorating and Styling service and E-decorating

The Interior Decorating and Styling service is for those who want the entire decorating process managed from start to finish whether it be one room or an entire home. This service involves an onsite consultation and at the end of the process I return to your home to style and photograph the space.

The E-Decorating service is ideal for those who do not want or have time for onsite meetings. The service is performed entirely online and at the end of the project you are provided with a personalised shopping list that you can purchase and implement in your own time.
