For many of us the start of a new year signals an opportunity to start afresh. A time to rid ourselves of old patterns and behaviours that no longer serve us and to create new goals for the year ahead.

Whilst many people’s goals are focused on the personal things they would like to achieve (loose 10 kilo’s, drink less etc), I’m here to remind you all, not to forget about the home.

Our homes are a reflection of who we are as people. They showcase what matters to us most and are representative of our personality, lifestyle and style, so they deserve a little love!

I am a firm believer that your home should be a place where you feel most comfortable and at peace, which is why ‘house goals’ are so important.

Like people, our homes evolve as we grow and our tastes change. So if one of your new year goals is to give your home a complete overhaul or your planning on redecorating that space you’ve been talking about for the past year, here are some interior trends for the year ahead to get you inspired.

Knowing your style can be one of the hardest interior challenges out there. With so many online influences on social media it can be downright confusing trying to decide what your ‘actual’ style is and not someone else’s. I have been thinking a lot about the concept of knowing your ‘why’ and the importance this plays when deciding on your style. Many people ask me, “how do I know what my style is?”  Often people are drawn to a lot of different influences but not one specific style and so they get confused and think, ‘I must not have a set style’ – (don’t panic if this is you 😉)

If interior decorating and styling is new to you it’s not uncommon to feel completely overwhelmed. For many people the thought of colour schemes, deciding on a style , choosing furniture and accessories and then knowing what to do with it all is enough to leave some people rocking in the corner! But I’m here to tell you that it needn't make you break out in hives. Here are some easy tips and tricks that even the most novice decorator can follow and use to create a dream space.

I know I normally write about interior styling ideas for kids and as you may have noticed I have been writing about different ideas relating to interiors but also health. This is because I see the 2 as interlinked and really important. Think about how you feel when you’re in a dark space all the time, it doesn’t make you the happiest! The amount of  natural light, spatial layout and interiors all contribute to the feel of a space and have the ability to affect our mood, which can influence our wellbeing.

These days many people are faced with the predicament of siblings having to share a room. I remember how hard it was trying to set up a bedroom for my son so I know it can feel like a daunting task when you’re faced with the reality of setting up a room for kids of different ages, especially if they’re a girl and a boy! When it comes to siblings sharing a bedroom I know a lot of people thing OMG this will be carnage, how am I going to get them to share – they’ll kill each other!! They’re two completely different people who have differing interests, how am I going to appeal to both??

Whilst it’s true that when you have a child your life changes, I believe your style and decor don’t always have to. Since turning one my son is now a bonified energiser bunny - crawling, climbing, falling over and generally getting into anything possible, making some spaces in my home an accident waiting to happen. I have realised that in order to work with the constant changes in his development I need to create spaces for him that are practical and fun and that I can do this without sacrificing on style. Here are some kid friendly decor and furniture ideas I thought I’d share that the whole family will love.
