I’m not surprised I’m ready for a break 😮‍💨

If I could describe 2024 in 3 words I would say challenging, eye opening and rewarding. It’s been EPIC!

In July of last year we set out to renovate an entire home, raise 2 young kids, whilst working and getting help only when we could afford it.

When we started I was optimistic and since then I’ve felt every emotion under the sun 🎢 - angry, frustrated, excited, sad, stressed, uncertain, proud…the list could go on.

A year on and we’ve finally moved in, we’re 80% finished (the outside is like a jungle 🌱🌵 so we’ve not started!) and we’re slowly settling in.

This year has toughy me that there’s a lot you can’t control in both renovating and life. 🤷‍♀️

There were so many situations were things arose that I could have never predicted. It taught me about the importance of communication and self care.

It taught me that stability and security are big drivers in our lives and when we don’t have this, life can feel out of control 😟

It taught me, how important it is to check in with your kids and make sure they’re ok, especially when there’s great stress and uncertainty happening.

The year isn’t over yet but something I’m planning for is rest. I want to reflect on the year, and actually celebrate a lot of the wins I haven’t had a chance to even acknowledge.

We are all stronger than we realise 💪 and more resilient than we know, even when it doesn’t feel like it. ❤️

This is something I hear all the time and my answer is you don’t have to, I’m here to help you understand what you’re drawn to which informs your style.

An interior style doesn’t have to fit into category, such as coastal or contemporary for example.

Your style can be based on how you want to feel, the textures you’re drawn to, what colours light you up and I’m here to guide you in this process. ☺️

The brief for this mood board wasn’t a set style. The client wanted their space to feel modern yet relaxed. Functional but interesting, with different elements of texture.

It’s never been an energy I feel good with. Whether it’s racing from one thing to the next, being super busy or racing to compete with others….

It’s not for me! And, I’m cool with that (she says as she sighs a breath of relief 😮‍💨)

And it’s why I love this quote so much. When you’re in your own lane, there is no traffic. You control the pace, you create what works for you and your life.

Something I’ve been working towards is living out my own calling. 🫶

Not being in competition with others, because at the end of the day we all have a different race to run, and mine is not the same as someone else’s.

When I stay in my own lane and focus, that is when magic happens ✨💫✨ so that is what I am choosing to embrace.

To me, a home should be a sensory experience….

To me, a home should be a sensory experience….

It should evoke a feeling as soon as you walk into the space, whether that be relaxed and calm, or spaces can sometimes be overwhelming when there’s too much going on.

The feeling of calm and inviting is what I seek to create with all my projects because it’s the way in which I want people to feel in my home. ❤️

I like to think of my home as a sensory journey for those who enter as I’ve used a lot of different materials from veined stone, to imperfect hand made tiles, to greenery 🌱 to soft fabrics and more to create spaces that are both visually interesting but also a sensory delight.

I’m also really interested in the feel of a home because my son is neaurodiverse and for him the way something feels, sounds, smells or tastes dictates his mood and ability to feel comfortable in a space.

I’m so excited and passionate about exploring this more sensory design and how I can help others bring this into their homes 🏡🤍

Everything has a place….although men and women see this differently! 😂

I’ve recently moved into the home we’ve been renovating for over a year and whilst we have storage, we’ve got pretty different ideas about where stuff should go. 🤷‍♀️ - can you relate???

Ok so utility cupboards are meant for things such as brooms, vacuum cleaners but extra cushions need a home too, right?! 🤔😉

It’s all in the details 🤍🤍

Something I love about design is the ability to transform a space just by the choice of materials, textures and even the items you style with, it all tells a story.

The story I wanted for my home was one of relaxed style 🥰

Something that people may not know is my eldest son has autism, so choosing the correct types of textures, colours, finishes and flooring was really important to me as it had to be suitable for for the highly sensory needs of my son.

I knew for example, that if I chose a floor tile for the bathroom that he didn’t like the feel of, that could mean the difference between him having a shower or not!!

This experience has led me down the path of wanting to understand sensory needs more and how this can be applied to the home to create calm environments

This year has been a tough one for me. A majority of it has felt like pushing 💩 up a hill!

Trying to renovate, work, raise children, look after myself and others and inevitably your cup is so over full, you don’t know where to start! 🤷‍♀️

But with great unrest, comes a chance for calm. 😌

In my case, this often comes in the form of sickness. It floors me and forces me to stop, but it also allows me to take stock of what’s important.

I’ve reminded myself that life’s not a race, it really doesn’t matter where others are, progress happens in layers and you will get to where you are going if you follow your own ❤️

I love a good boogie and there’s nothing better on a Monday, than moving your body to a good tune to get the endorphins going!!!

I’m also a classic procrastinator, especially when I have heaps to go…I’ll do almost anything (like dance on camera 😂) than do the task at hand. However for me, doing something I love makes me more creative!

But, as they say, do more things in life that bring you joy. So why not! 💃🪩 #workcanwait
