When you think of interior styling, what comes to mind? The beautifully styled homes featured on Instagram or does it leave you scratching your head?
Whilst some people have a natural flair for styling and are able to express their personal taste, many lack the confidence to know where to start or how to showcase their interior style.
My goal for this blog post is to provide you with some easy interior styling tips that you can use to create a big impact in the home minus the stress.
Introduce Texture and Pattern
One of the easiest ways to introduce texture and colour into a space is with soft decor.
Cushions, throws and rugs are a great way to add interest into a space as the materials and colours can be changed up with the different seasons.
When choosing cushions play around with different sizes, shapes and fabrics such as square, rectangular (lumbar cushions) and round cushions to add interest to a sofa or occasional chair.
Consider mixing up throws by choosing a linen material for the hotter months and a chunky knit for the cooler ones.
Rugs are a great way to add pattern and texture into a space as they come in all types of materials and prints and play a key role in creating zones in the home as they act as an anchor for a space, tying everything together.

Create a Statement
An over sized piece of artwork on a main wall, a large floral arrangement or a cluster of items grouped together is a great way to create impact in a space and can be as cheap or expensive as you like.
A statement piece works well if you have neutral furniture or lots of blank walls that can allow a piece to stand out and become the focal point in a room.
Whether it’s framed artwork or a textured wall hanging, consider your style first and what is going to work in the space and shop around as there are so many affordable options to suite different tastes.

Style with Intention
Before styling a space it can be really useful to clear everything away and start with a blank canvas.
This gives you a chance to slowly introduce items that have meaning to you such as photo’s, books that you might love, plants, vases etc.
I know people often get the urge to put everything they own on display, but the key is to show restraint and only showcase what is truly meaningful and what is going to add interest to a particular room or piece of furniture.

Plants are your Best Friend
I say this because it’s true. Not only are plants of all varieties great for your health and wellbeing they’re also fantastic for interior styling.
When choosing plants to style with consider the space you want to put the plant in so that you know whether the lighting available is going to work for that particular plant.
Grouping plants together that have different shapes, sizes and textures is a great way to add interest to a space or if you have the ceiling heights consider an over sized plant such as a palm or fiddle leaf to add real impact.
